Ram has confirmed that the Ram Dakota nameplate is officially returning as a new midsize pickup!
According to Edmunds.com, Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis confirmed at a recent media event that the long-absent Dakota (last built in 2011) will come back as a midsize truck to fill a $40,000 segment in Ram’s lineup.
Here’s what Edmunds reported:
• The Dakota name is real and is coming back under the Ram brand.
• It’ll compete with other midsize pickups (think Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma, etc.) and address a gap where Ram hasn’t had a midsize offering.
• No official specs yet, but industry expectations include things like a turbo-four or Jeep-sourced engine, part-time 4WD, and likely an automatic transmission.
• While no firm timeline was given, it’s expected to land around 2027/2028 — giving Ram a key product in a very competitive segment.
Stay tuned — this could be one of Ram’s most important new models in years!
